    Toll Free Phone #

Do any of you have one of those way cool toll-free 1-800 phone numbers for your business? Is it worth the extra expense? Are potential clients really impressed by it? Or is it just more hype & bother?

I have the usual business phone # that starts with my local area code. I'll hand my card to someone who does not live in my area, and they'll say, "Where the heck is 414?"

So my question is: are people more likely to call a toll-free # than a regular long-distance #?

Up until three years ago, yes. These days everyone is using cells, and almost all of them have free long distance. Getting an 800 number at this point is only really worth the effort if you are tring to sell Star Trek commemerotive plates. As a matter of fact, if you call the phone company and ask them for one, they might think that you are a witch.
