    Critics needed

Hey folks, am trying to apply for a festival or two this year and am putting togehter a new promotional package. This is the three minute long video I've done recently - not a million % happy with it yet, but not too sure what it is thats wrong. Any criticism//feedback apreciated. The online version is very low quality - as a result the scrolling text looks awful, it usually looks a lot nicer.

Thanks a lot in advance folks:

    All the best

      Hi Owen-

Before sending out my first festival press kit some years ago, I did a little research ahead of time: I called several festivals and asked what it is they need to see in a promo video.

Without exception, I was told over and over again, that what they needed to see was ME.

It was a few years ago of course, but I'm not sure that things have changed so much since then. They still need to see your character, and how the public responds to that character. How well you edit together pieces of 20 different tapes and combine it to backing music is not what impresses an agent. They can see music videos on TV.

Regarding your video in particular, I can't make out a word you say while on stage inside the shopping center.

      Good Luck!

        ummm yup

I got it to work...I think it must have been a severe lack of caffeine in my system.

I agree with chance. I understand the mall thing as a joke that you can never hear the announcements made...
Also the words that fly by under the video...especially with that font, very hard to read.

You look pretty good, but it's a little over edited. It would be good to hear some of your jokes, see audience reaction and part of your show. Bigger crowds would be nice and you don't need the begining still frames. The text doesn't really say much about you. There's a good shot of a crowd in a place that looks like times Sq. with lots of billboards around.

Your footage only proves that you're experienced. It doesn't look like you've performed anywhere grand. I would focus on the quality of your show, not the diversity of venues. This is how I would do it.

If you still have the friend that taped your good street shots, I would go out with him again.

          ONE
          Faster video montage 15 - 20 sec.
          TWO
Record you talking to the camera, "Hi, I'm Owen Lean, the Street Mage. I'm going out in _____ to trick some people." (or whatever's natural for you). 15 sec.
          THREE
Cut to press screen: "Lean Keeps the crowd..."
          FOUR
Either one whole routine or cuts of three routines all from the same day.
          FIVE
Reactions - laughing - slack jaw - "I nearly pissed myself" etc. 20 sec.

Many, many, thanks for al your feedback. As you know I'm sure, I'm still very new to this whole game. The plan was to do a DVD, which would include this video as well as a full length recording of my street act and a couple of other things that I could send out. The only thing I oculd put on the website obviously is this vid as I don't have the webspace for anything much larger.

But yeah... maybe I should just work on a longer montage of bit from my act without the music so they can see my jokes and stage persona more etc.

              What do you think?

              All the best
