    Television Segment

    I am a magician and a local tv station is going
    to do a short segment about my show
    (about five minutes in length).

    I have prepared for this, but am looking for
    suggestions (ie cautions, etc.).

      Get noticed

      Be sure you have a poster or banner with your name and or number displayed where the camera will catch it.

              Hi Aaron,

              Some things I have learned the hard way:

              1) know what the colors of the set are going to be and plan your outfit accordingly. DON'T wear black or white, and be careful of being solidly in all one color (like an all blue suit for example). You can make this work, for example with a nice tie (that's not blue, and has a nice pattern (not too busy)) and a pocket hankerchief. It's not advisable to wear a hat because it can create shadows on your face -- unless that's what you're going for.

              2) use a make-up artist or learn to do a bit of make-up for TV (base, lip gloss, a little highlighting around the eyes). You won't look gay, you'll look normal (not that being gay is not normal). Normal clear skin can look splotchy on a camera in TV lighting.

              3) Appearance: Go to a tanning salon before hand. NOT to get a deep tan, just to add some nice healthy color to your skin. Honkies like us get really pale during the winter, and on camera it can come off as being sickly. Treat yourself to a good haircut, too.

                  No plaid or tight stripes. It messes with the pixels of the camera.

                  Direction:
                  They'll tell you what they want from you.

                  Smile

                  Stand still. Don't shift as much as you might in a normal conversation.

                  Overdo your announciations and hand gestures. Watch tv and study how unnatural people are.

                          While on camera do the opposite of what others around you are doing ... eyes go to stillness when everything else is moving and vice versa.
