    anti-aliasing

I mean how hard can it be?
I know its a basic photoshop skill and I've checked on a couple of tutorials but I can't seem to get a handle on it. I know its about creating a channel and blurring however my channel creating obscures my original gif and I get all confused and drink heavily and wake up the next day and try again and repeat and I've run out of money and one of my kidneys has stopped working.
Its the google gif on my homepage search engine.

Theres not some auto anti-aliasing micro program out there anywhere is there?

That google gif is anti-aliased to a WHITE background. You need to anti alias it to a BLACK background. When anti-aliasing, you need to create a background layer in Photoshop that is the same color (or very close) as the background the image is going to sit on.

That way, the edge color of the image will fade into the background.

      Martin,

Here's an example of an anti-aliased .gif that was anti-aliased in photoshop on top of a "#D1D1D1" background:

Feel free to use it for whatever you'd like.

Just pull and official one from their site:

Explore the Google search logo changes made throughout the years to celebrate culture, holidays, and much more.

I knew I had seen those somewhere! I quickly looked at Google and didn't find them.

Actually, Martin, grab one of the BLACK background Google images and study it to see how it was made.

[Off topic: I had a weird dream about Google this morning. I dreamt that google re-designed their front page to be all Flash and weird animations and it would take forever to load. I kept having to use it and it would take about a minute watching a stupid flash intro before I could do a search and then to do another search I'd have to sit through another intro page. I think I've been spending way too much time at my computer lately.]

Martin, you can fix your front page by changing three letters in your code:

            Right now it's:
            http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_40wht.gif

            Change it to:
            http://www.google.com/logos/Logo_40blk.gif

            That's way easier than Photoshop!

              Hey! You already did it!

I thought I would show off and you beat me to it.

Thanks guys, did it the longer way but still speedy. (downloaded the gif, put it on my server, linked to it.)
Now looking at customizing the secondary search pages. Apparently you can have your logo. (note to self; must design logo, must incorporate succinct memorable graphic incorporating chosen multilayed conceptual elements)
