    Publicity Problems

I have been featured in pictures in a local paper 5 times to date... only none include my name. I dont want to sound like an ass and make them not want to put my picture in the paper, but without a name its not a big gain for me. I am going to write them, and i was hoping to incorporate in the letter any advice you have on what to say.

    Cheers,
    Eric

When I worked for newspapers it was mandatory to get IDs of people in photos, otherwise we wouldn't run it. Kids nowadays...

Anyway, here are a couple of suggestions for your situation.
-- Post a large sign with your name. The sign will either be in the photo, or the photog will catch your name without having to stop your routine.

-- Work the photo-taking into your routine. Most newspaper photogs are easy to spot from other picture-takers -- large bag, tele lens, sometimes a reporters' notebook. During the shoot, stop your routine and make a big production out of giving your business card to the photog. Perhaps grab someone from the audience to join you in a closeup.

Another publicity issue is the pre-event listing by the promoters. They'll often list all of the businesses involved, and then say "also performing will be a juggler" or "accordion player,", if they mention you at all.
