renegade sells plastic globes that are very light weight. sometimes you want something more stable.excellent stability semcycle.com has 60 cm globes weighing 80 lbs made of wood.this is a very hard item to find nowadays.

I'm really getting into the rolling globe. I currently have one of the lightweight globes from Renegade and it works pretty good but I was curious about other styles, such as different materials and perferably a larger globe, as at 6'2 I find the renegade globe a bit small. My biggest issue is transportation, the small ones are huge. Anybody have any ideas?

I remember reading that before I even had the globe and it seemed like a good idea. However after starting on mine I tried asking him some questions about it through IJDB and he told me that to keep the two halves together it has to remain more or less stationary.

Yeah, I've not really challenged the ball by walking on it much apart from just idling with the seam along the hemisphere. But, since that is all I would do with it, jump up on the globe, idle while juggling, it isn't really an issue for me. The two halves stay together with a stripe of tape for rolling around and moving it, and when I would be standing on it the weight is distributed evenly across the seam.

Separate a rolling globe idea

My globe is made out of fiberglass, approximately 3/8 " thick, weighs 52 pounds and is 28" in diameter. I was told that it was built with a threaded rod through the poles. The ends of the rod received bolts that were tightened to hold the two halves together. The rod ends and bolts were recessed and covered with fiberglass, as well as, the seam. I am not sure, but I think the globe poles are a bit thicker fiberglass, to allow for the recessed rod ends and bolts?

I think if you combined Steve's idea with a tightened threaded rod and a simple locking system, so the two halves would not turn at the hemisphere... this would create a solid walking globe that is also easily separated.

To be honest, having a solid globe has not been a real hassle. I had a lightweight ballistic nylon case made for my globe. I check it in when I fly and build the excess weight fee into my price.

Renagade is also now selling larger globes.
