these amps really are the hot ticket. if you work a somewhat noisy place you want the taxi (tx 30) if you are right next to a rock n roll band you want the limo (tx 50).i work in european street festivals that are extremely loud and the taxi cuts right through it
Matt . Don't waste your money on the crate amps..
If you're playing music, the best amp I've come accross is the AER COMPACT MOBILE ( sold in some countries under the name AER TRAMP). It hat two main inputs with two and three way eq, phantom power. and builtin reverb. It also has an fx loop for an additional effect device and rca inputs for CD player. It's a German amp that was designed to reproduce acoustic instruments. It costs about US$1000 but its worth it
Just to paraphrase gerrys logic here.
Dont waste your money (us $350 ish) buying a crate or limo that's been vouched for by other performers who are satisfied with it. ( I've trundled new limo's from the states to Pee wee and em and also nick nickolas this year and they are both pleased with them)
Go and get my recomendation for $1000.
That way you won't waste your money??
Thanks for the top of the line recomendation gerry but limos at least have 2 inputs, 8 hours power, plenty of volume and are warrented well. what exactly do you gain for your extra $650?
Martin... Unless you are a musician you wouldn't appreciate the difference between an amp that has "plenty of volume" and one that has excellent sound quality,Trust me mate, there's a huge difference. My comments were directed to Matt who plays piano accordian and dobro. The Taxi amp was designed with electric guitars in mind and therefore lacks frequency response, particularly in yhe top end. The limmo is definately a step up from the Taxi, but still a far cry from the quality you get from the AER.
By the way Martin, being a Kiwi you may be interested in some really good quality gumboots I saw advertised the other day??!!...
Gerry
Ok Jerry point taken,I'm not a musician but I did see $650 once. We better stop here before the gumboot references bleed into sheepshagging jokes.
(The best retort being ' Yes of course we shag them, everyone back home does . Then we kill them and export them to you and you eat them.") an original Rob Maclaren joke
Just to close the book on this topic. I went with the Crate taxi 30.
It fit my budget and I think it'll deliver the sound I need. Thanks to all for chiming in.
