Tear Away Pants

I am looking for information and instructions to construct pants that tear or fall or fly away in an instant and leave me bare legged in my boxers.
Let me know what you know or refer me to a book or other document. Thanks

Hey Daniel
Etienne/le pire is on the right track with the velcro thing. There are track pants you can buy with snaps down the legs for "easy access" OR you could have a pair made with velcro all the way up the sides so you just have to rip them off whenever needed. You could take a large pair of pants and cut the seems up the legs and sew in your own velcro--just an idea

Good luck

I am going to stay away from velcro.
Something that doesn't require a strong pull and make a lot of noise. I'd like them to "fall away" without large physical movements.
Everybody seems to have heard of such pants but I know of nobody who has actually used them.
Anybody?
Other Ideas?

About a million years ago I did a bit with a pair of pants 3 sizes too big for me in the waist. I wore suspenders to hold them up. At some poing in my act I would put both hands in my pockets and lift up. This would cause the suspenders to fall off my shoulders and I would remove my hands from my pockets and viola, my pants had fallen away. The cuffs were big so I could step right out of them shoes and all.

At one point i even toyed with the idea of putting stiff wire around the hem of the waist to make the pants fall smoother, but the truth was they fell pretty quick as it was.

I also did an impromptu version by using bib overalls. I wouldn't button the top side buttons and the effect was the same.

the tough thing was finding cuff openings that would allow my shoes to pass through quickly so that I could step right out of the pants.

I hope this helps, it isn't tear away but it is quick and easy.

Best,

Dan-

No velcro eh? Hmmmmm. You could try basting the seams of your pants together---really long, loose stitches. You would have to work with it a bit but it might work with a tug or two. Maybe with cotton pants, jeans might be too difficult. I haven't ever tried this with pants but seen it done with shirts. Who knows.
Good luck

I knew a gal in Queens name of Cindy Liscious who could get you out of your pants without large physical movements. Mine always seemed to just fall away... where did I put that number...

Dan Kamin does a terrific routine where his whole suit falls appart.
it's in quicktime on his website...

How does he do it?

Here's a hint, it's not the suit.

My suggestion is you buy several pairs of pants and experiment with different stratgically placed buttons or snaps that you will undo to make them fall apart. It is then up to you to find ways of disguising these movements with misdirection, redirection, acting, etc. Good luck!
