    New Orleans

The French Market Corporation (quasi-public for-profit institution) has "soto voce" taken control of almost every available pitch. They require a license (free from the FMC main office on North Peters St.) to work anywhere on French Market property. They appear to have taken control of the Jackson Square area by posting new signs forbidding vehicular traffic and installing "bollards" at the entrances which are removable only by keys in possession of police, fire and EMT crews. The "license" is not required to work Jackson Square, but police are enforcing the unwritten "no performance in front of the cathedral" rule, sometimes quite brutally. Thus there are no pitches on the Square for circle shows. Some of the magicians have been able to pull off shows at the corners on St. Ann and St. Peter Streets. Crate slugs still inhabit some of the the pitches on Decatur Street. I believe you can pull off shows on the Moon Walk, at the whim of the rent-a-cops of the Audubon Aquarium, which apparently has domain over the entire mile-plus of the Moon Walk and Woldenberg Park. It is, I fear, "the camel's nose in the tent!"

That sucks, but at least the permit's free. Is Pirates Alley still an open pitch?

As of Oct. 31 FMC apparently has control of everything in and around J. Sq. I continue to. See I unamplified musical acts there.
