The drummer for Dave Brubeck's band died recently, and this info was in his obit.:
"Beside 'Take Five" it also included "Blue rondo a al Turk" based on a complicated 9/8 rhythym that Brubeck heard Turkish street musicians playing."
The quartet toured Turkey in 1958, so this is indicating that there were Turkish street musicians at that time. Who knew?
