    Driving through Mexico to Belize

    Hey gang -

My partner and I are going to drive to Belize, where we have a gig.

We want to do shows in towns in Mexico along the way - our thought is that we will likely not make a ton of hat, since the currency and standard of living are lower, but we'll have a good time and make friends.

Anyone know any pitches on the East side of Mexico headed south? Our sense is that most towns have a central plaza and we'll head for that at evening stroll time.

Anyone know if the border gives you a hard time about equipment? We'll have a hot pink aerial rig strapped to the roof, but we're both pretty girls.

Anyone have any advice for driving in Mexico? I'm suspecting it's slower, bad roads, need to have water, spare tire, oil, watch for leaded/unleaded gas, anything else you can think of?

    Many thanks!

Qualifier: I haven't been to Mexico in a looong time.
There were two good spots for busking in Mexico City (D.F.)
    1. The Zona Rosa, which is filled with small shops, restaurants, hotels, and tourists.
    2. Chapultepec Park.
There are many clowns and fire eaters that perform on the street (literally) for cars stopped at traffic lights. [The traffic in Mexico City is horrendous].
Remember: if the water is bad, you also have to be careful with ice, vegatables, fruits, etc.
Also, the altitude in some cities (Mexico City for example) can affect you if you're not accustomed to it.
Good luck & be sure to report back.

I was in Mexico a month ago from Cancun to Belize and the roads were fine. Playa de Carmen looked workable. I was too busy taking it easy to find out. I can suggest a good hostel there. Playa Hostel near the Walmart and there was a great organic resturant on Calle 30 on the next block after the Mega store.

      Good luck!
