Another So Cal thread ... Help!

So folks, This is my first year busking and I am doing it full time. During the summer I made a decent amount of money, definately enough to live on buuut ever since september I am in trouble!

My hats have dropped to a quarter of what they were and it is only workable on the weekends, it is too cold for the beach pitches so Venice is out of the question.

Sanata monica is out of the question becuase I am a sideshow performer and they wouldn't allow a juggler to juggle clubs let alone let someone like me work there!

The only place I've found workable is Hollywood Blvd but very low money becuase it is only big enough for a sidewalk show, and cops are all over me, I've gotten busted for using an amp and standing on a crate. Now they are telling me I can't even work out of my suitcase that I have to wear a backpack while I perform. Haha Unlikely. I'm still going to work out of my case and risk the ticket.

So my question to you kind gentlepeople... Are there any full time buskers in So Cal and if so, where the heck are you working! Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

      Beautiful advice sir!

Well hollywood is going a little better than I expected so if things stay like this it'll be sort of liveable (real word?) during winter. But I'd love to have other options in case the coppers run me out so any input would be more than welcome!

      Morbidly Yours,

Been there my friend, in fact I live 10 minutes away. Decent in the summer but no one in the winter. Have you busked there before? Do you know Lucky John?

              LA

I really don't care much for busking in the LA area. But I've worked some mostly when I'm just passing through.San Diego is pretty good too.Yea I worked that Pier, and I don't know Lucky John.

Well it happened, I got cited as a misdemeanor for having my 2 by 1 ft briefcase on the floor... I am running out of options. Hey George, did you get my PM?

                  LA

I got a ticket one time, at the promenade in Santa Monica because they could hear me in side of a business with the door closed(unamplified)

shite, is there anywhere to work where you dont have to deal with this kind of bullshit?
i got told the other day that my slack line was a public safety hazard...because people could walk into it unsuspectingly and injure themselves...comon? if you can make it past the wall of people and somehow wonder into a slack line..maybe you deserve to get hurt.

After busking worldwide for many years I moved to LA and other then going back to Europe a few times, it pretty much killed my enjoyment as a street performer. Years ago I had worked Venice and did very well and had a cool ten days, but by the time I moved to LA around '99 it sucked unless you wanted to do a lot of short shows, or make half your show about collecting money as the better acts there did. Santa Monica was a bit better, I worked the quietest block and gathered nice size crowds, but as soon as I would finish, loud musicians would be setting up on both sides cause they saw the size of my crowd and kill any focus to start another one and for the most part wouldn't listen to reason as I tried to get them to trade off.....Then I discovered there were tons of really good street performers who lived there and noone worked the streets anymore.....Hollywood didn't open up till later, but by then I'd moved on to other things.....What it came down to for me, was I had to work twice as hard for a quarter of the money I was used to making.......
