    Big Island Busker's Festival

Just got this and was wondering if y'all have any feedback as to what time of year would be best to have such an event?

The more I think about it, the more inspired I am to try to create a
Busker's Festival for the BI as you've suggested. I know the folks to talk
to for HTA grants and I might even have some influence there. The
applications for next year are due in August. I will call you next week and
come visit and get some input from you on when would be a good time of year.
I think the event should be Island wide - Hilo, Kona, Kohala, Waimea and Puna. Let's do it...... S>

I like Gav's timing suggestion. And I want to come.

(I had a nightmare once where I was on the Big Island, expected to do chalk on a sandy beach. You were there and were pretending you didn't know me. You were driving a bus.)
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

January! I would assume this would be everyone's worst time of year... no?

I think october/november sounds nice, January - March would not be a bad period either.

when would the weather and potential crowds the best?
Then that is when it should be.

sounds good to me ... I'll pass it on

I think tourist "season" might be better around January ...

weather is tenuous during both Oct.-Nov. and Jan.-Mar. but it's worth a shot

                    100 inches a year

It rains a lot here ... mostly at night ... it keeps everything as green as Peter Panic's wardrobe (and cleaner).

When is it the least Voggy?
Or is the vog pretty consistent?
Well, maybe I WILL just keep telling myself that.

End of northern winter [but still winter]
                        end of australasian summer season
one side of the island is called 'wetside' and one 'dryside'
I'm on the dryside but produce my own drizzle while butterfly's on the wetside like some ray of sunshine.
It's strange how it's turning out.

                          Volcano Man

It's funny how things start out ... and where they end up:

OK... the BIG meeting with the BIG boys (mostly women) turned out like this:

They "liked" the idea but said the way the money apportionment on the islands works out this way... Oahu gets the lion's share of a so-called "pillow tax" statewide ... Maui gets a bit less but makes up for the difference itself by imposing it's own slightly higher pillow tax... and the rest of the islands share the rest... AND...what's most important: the money HAS to be given out to benefit the local communities and individuals so...they directed us to approach the Kona side community organization for funding (the very one that Martin has already infiltrated)...BUT ...here's my idea... in order to get buskers over here I intend to propose coupling a "fire festival" or fire spectacle similar to burning man on this side of the island ... I figure a huge bonfire down near the volcano with a whole bunch of people doing fire stuff would bring a lot of attention to draw tourists and stuff ... I also have have to figure out a way to sandwich in some mini-buskerfests island wide ... this place is so vastly different from one side to another... hell, you can even go skiiing here...

Nice. Jan/Feb is when I generally cultivate misery and read dark novels.

I would have thought that, as Hawaii is half way between the north and the south of the planet, and that many performers follow the summers, that to slot it into the spring/autumn(fall) time of year would make the festival an appealing transitional gig...

So... September - November seems to suit me best... or April/May.
