    Key West, half shut down.

Please note that the city of Key West have just started work on repairing Mallory Square pier and have put up a big fence that cuts off half the pier. The work will carry on till at least November. This dramatically reduces the number of performance spaces. So unless you are in a good bucket you may want to think twice before coming all the way down here.
    Have a nice day.

I'm arriving to Miami 14th october, I was planning to go to Key West directly but with this problem I may stay in Miami for a few weeks. Ihave seen on internet pictures from performers doing shows in Miami. Anybody can tell me if there is any spots where to perform in and around Miami?

The pier is still half shut down, they say it should be finished by January but that could change. Its already pretty much full up. So if you are not in a good bucket and there are 5 buckets (you normally go up one bucket per season), forget it. If all the Grandfathers are working then it probably won't even get past the regulars.
Key West is expensive for places to stay and food. You need a permit to work on the streets which you can only get in November and is for walk by busking only no circle showsand costs $100.
If you are not in the top 3 buckets it would be best to wait until at least the middle of January if all the work is over.
Here is a link to the Mallory Square webcam.

I hear only of Key west all the time...is it the only place in Florida where you can perform correctly??? It seems to me to be a place where performers are one in top of the other, and figthing for the spots all the time?!..

                      Sun set celebration

Izimajic, key west is one of the best places in this country to work. That's why a lot of performers come here to work. It's a very easy life stile as wall. lot of tourist, women, (sorry Rachael) whiskey and ... what ever you want in life. We work 2 hours a day at sun set and if your good enough you can make a decent living here year round. We have about 19 pitches usually, but due to construction we have half of that at this time. There is some politics but all places have some. So you come on down if you don't get your own spot I will share mine with you,so let's see what you've got. Heck I'll take you sailing if all else fails.
There are some other good spots in Florida to work in Florida as well. Dallas helped to put together Pier 60 in Clearwater, there's Daytona Palm Beach, south beach and others.
There's no fighting for spots. We have a lottery system based on seniority, So new comers don't always get the best spots, so they cry and bitch a lot, but if your good enough any spot is good.
                      Show us what you got...

                          I'm looking at Dec 1.

Maybe earlier, but no later than that first week in Dec.

I might spend a couple weeks in New Orleans, if I find that I have to leave KC early.

You say the work is only 2 hour (I assume this is during the sunset celebration), but what is it like the rest of the day and night?

The best time to be in NOLA is from the second week of October till just after Thanksgiving. But you defiantly gotta be out of there the first week of December. Take your time coming to Key West, stopping by to see Dallas at pier 60, maybe Daytona, south beach etc. key West picks up a few days before Christmas then all hell breaks loose till just after the first of January.
You have to have a permit to work in the street here. You apply in November and get it in December. Cost is $100.00. We work 2 hours a day at sun set celebration so you gotta be good to make good, but you can do it.Heck we didn't come to Key West to work all the time.Party all night sleep all day! You know.

The work will likely be till summer 2010. If you have another place to perform, go there.
