Should I bother with Australia this year?

    Hey guys
I just got back from a gig in Arizona and I'm not too happy with Canada right now (even though it's not terribly cold)

A couple of friends have emailed from Oz saying I should come down this winter. Then another friend said the economy is down and he's not making any money.

So.. is it worth the plane ticket for me, in all of your infinite wisdom over all things busking-and-economic-crisis related?

    Thanks folks.

I'm not sure what type of show you do but I can tell you that a lot of acts that come from Cananda and Europe to Australia are a bit shocked by how much more difficult it is to do shows there and make money.
Combine that with the financial situation, the lack of places to work, the increasing amount of performers that want to work those places, the fact that immigration have cracked down on foreigners performing in Sydney and the summer heat, to me it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Great place for a holiday though if you have the money.

      Heya Kate

I think what Gav says is pretty on if your a circle show but your not.
A statue I think can work almost anywhere in Australia and get by. They have a hell of a lot more options than circle shows and I dont think they are as effected by the harder audiences. The key words are "get by". I would suggest that you go. If you live smart and work hard youll get to live pretty well plus pay your airfare back.
If you can live with that I am sure you would do well.
      Good luck

      Lee

            Thanks everyone for your advice!
I am statuing, but wanted to go somewhere warm to work on a circle act... I suppose if I do go, I will bring all gear and sort it out when I get there.

First snowfall today... definitely makes my consideration a bit stronger. I was thinking of hitting down there in Jan/Feb....
