This sounds like a street performers pension plan. This guy Will Soto sure closed this shop right up.
Its really not surprising that one of the constant themes of the discussion is people ripping of eachothers acts. I think this system must make this one of the most uncreative pitch environments I have ever heard of.
No fresh acts, just old guys going thru the motions, staying safe in their comfort zones.

Hey Lee, haven't seen you sense Boulder a few tears back.Hope things are good with you.I actually saw Tom Morrison doing one of your routines here a couple of years ago .It was pretty much just like I've seen you do it. Oh well...
I really don't remember if you ever saw the dog show that I do in Key West? But I made that show up from scratch, there was no one before me and I don't know of anyone who has ever copied my routine or even the same idea. I've made a living doing it now for about 15 years now, and I do travel around the country and do it,but how many times can one see ''a star is born'' and still stay on top. you know what I mean? It is an award winning show as I won Pet Star on Animal Planet a few years back. SO,I've been working on a new act some 3 years now Took me 2 years to think of it and have been putting it together a little over a year now, it's almost finished, maybe in a couple of months. I have choose not to share this new show with p-net at this time. Maybe when it's finished... I've got about 4 grand in it now and intend to put a few more in it before it's finished. The show in itself is entirely original. Hope you get the chance to see it sometime. I may be old but I'm still out here and I'm still having a good time through entertainment... Come see us sometime I'll take you sailing.

Now come on Gav. We (being C.P.S.) lease space from the city for 4 hours a day. 2 hours before Sun set till 2 hours after. It's not a free space like the street. But through the effort of people like Will Soto myself and others we have kelp freedom of speech and expression in a celebration of the sun set. And I can tell you now that ain't been easy. So come on down have some fun and enjoy the good life.
Aztommyb, too bad, you had the makings of a really good show.Heard your girl split town, the drummer quit and you got a job. What happened to the dog?

So let me get this straight Jeep. Is it just you and all the others that have seniority that pay to lease the space ? If that is the case, then fair enough if you pay for the space, and the new comers don't.

Perhaps you could clarify the payment situation for us.

I've heard it's wise to trust a 60 yr young man in neon. And then the FIRE! How about our sailing trip??????

Gav, we as performers don't pay for space. C.P. S. leases and pays for the space from the city for us to hold a Sun Set Celebration. Venders pay for the space. We draw the crowd. But we are all C. P. S. members and we pay to be a member. We all draw for a space including venders. There is just a rule that that lets members with over 10 years service draw first . There are maybe 15 grand fathers that draw first. If you draw a bad number you could draw a not so good spot! If you are way down the line you may not even get a spot. There are only so many spots you know. If you want to come down and check it out ,and if you don't get a spot and really need to work ,I'll for sure share my spot with you ,like most of the rest of us do. And don't forget I'll take you sailing and btw I need a crew for Sunday's wreckers race.

Thanks for the offer to come sailing Jeep but honestly I dont think I will ever come to Key West to work. Whilst I am sure you would share your spot with me to cut me a break that is alot different from having a right to work and being treated as an equal.
The whole situation sounds bloody awful and is exactly the kind of thing I have fought against on other pitches around the world. We are all equal. In Key West some are more equal than others.

Well then I'm just guessing, that makes us uniquely different thin!

Thanks for blasting that up here Jeep. Good of you. Maasai, our kick ass percussionist went back to New York for about a month. Cammie did indeed jump ship. We were pulling crowds just fine and making decent hats too....but the stresses of getting a pitch, and finding a place to park our travel trailer (other than Will's front yard), among other things caused her to leave. Hussie the dog was hers before we met...so there went the pooch too. I'm still reeling a bit over the whole thing. Kind of hard to re-create your show and put on a successful solo act when you're sad. So...got to make some money for a bit (ie. J-O-B). I'll be back at it, but need a little break.
