    London Zoo

Hey, did anybody know anything about London Zoo? I heard that there are whole bunch of face-painters there... Do we need a permit - or just set up? I would appriciate any info - I will be passing through London and would love to check it out! Are there any other pitches with a lot of kids?

Mostly i would have a plan and a van when i used to travel around europe doing my comedy juggling show. These days I'm based in Croatia and only travel to gigs and back. Sometimes if i'm passing within range of a place I've heard is good for busking, I'll stop to check it out.

I've done a lot of unplanned flying. A trick is to have a bankroll that will keep your head dry and belly full even if it rains for a month. Then all you have to do is average more income per month than you spend. If you can't do that, live cheaper or get a better show I suppose.

I stay in cheap hotels or with friends. I don't have a van, cause one of the good things about my show is I can fly without paying overweight, so I travel with trains or airplanes instead. The bad thing is I often have to pay for accomodation.

I use the "Let's Go (on a budget)" book series to find cheap accomodation, and I get a brochure listing hotels from the local information office (standard for any decent-sized city in Italy, where I do most of my busking) to augment it. When I need to change plans I can usually find last-minute accomodation along these lines, and when I can't I can usually commute around my dilemma. Right now, for example, I'm in Brescia but had a run in with the law yesterday (in Italy this usually involves a short lecture on what is and isn't allowed - which varies by cop - and then a "move along"). So today I commuted to nearby Bergamo, which went well, and tomorrow I'll hit Cremona.

on the same lines..when I need to find a cheap place in the little two bit town I might be heading to, instead of buying a Lonely Planet of the country I just go to the bookstore with a pen and paper and right down the contact details of hostels.
No guilt about throwing that Estonian travel book away afterwards!
