Rant from a relative noob. Maybe some advice, if you please.
Landing a gig at one of these seems like a very good opportunity.
I have the opportunity, but it is my understanding that the entertainment director is butting heads with the main director as to whether or not they can afford one more act.
They liked my audition. He said he was interested, and has extended his personal deadline to make the decision to book me, because of the budgetting issues. His first deadline, Tuesday, he told me his boss was "somewhat reticent" to book me, and I should give him another 48 hours to work on it for me. He said he appreciated my patience. I called too late, today, I guess, since he was already gone.
I haven't even offered a fee. I contacted him a couple weeks ago, asking if he had a stage for a magician, he said he did, if I offered a variation of what magic shows they have (I do) and if I was reasonable cheap. After mentioning (again) how he needed cheap, I just responded with "I would have no problem coming in at your entry-level rate."
I feel I'm being shrewd enough to keep my pay rate out of the ripoff zone, but it's costing me temporary sanity.
Do you think my response was good enough? I felt somewhat assholistic not dropping a rate, right away.
