I worked St. Louis several times but my most recent trip was 1991 so take it with a pinch of salt.

The 4th of July in St. Louis is amazingly huge. They do/did hire acts for the event but you could easily busk it as well. Good but not massive hats, but big crowds and good shows.

There is an area of bars down near the riverfront where you can work during the 4th but I think this area can also be worked on normal weekends.

There used to be some scheduled busking at Union Station. Pretty nice touristy area but the indoors shows can be a bit soulless like most indoor pitches. I've also done some semi-outdoor shows there out the back and by a bar in the complex but these weren't normal spots.

There also used to be a decent pitch at an outdoor shopping center in the western suburbs. ( might be called Westport, can't really remember ) Anyway it was the location of one of the FunnyBone comedy clubs and some expensive shops. Definitely worth a try on Fri/Sat night if they still allow it.

Good luck. Hope you can still make it happen in St. Louis.

Yes it's Westport. The street performers and the council are not getting along,to put it lightly/cleanly.

      Is a site/blog about it.

      Thanks

In 1967 there was a place you could work called gas light sq. Now you can work places like the Golden Arch or on the river front area. Sorry West Port is on 44th in Kansas city ,Mo.

Yes, Westport is in Kansas City. That is where I began street performing. There was never much room for a good pitch there but it was quite workable if you don't mind a lively bar crowd on a Saturday night.

The Plaza in KC is much more upmarket and potentially better to work. I once had permission to work there for the summer and had a blast. (It was 1985. I was 19 years old and working with my partner John Lehr who is now known as "the caveman" from those commercials and as the host of "I'm a celebrity...".) But the Plaza is a stuffy kind of place and they change their minds a lot about what kind of "image" they want to portray. From what was written in that blog it sounds like at the moment there must be a few people working the Plaza that they are trying to get rid of.

I just google the Funny Bone comedy club in St. Louis to confirm that the other place in St. Louis that I mentioned is indeed called Westport Plaza. It's in the western suburbs and was a good pitch 20 years ago. Who knows now.

fyi- Westport in KC and The Plaza in KC are two very different places but not far from each other in central KC as opposed to Westport Plaza which is in outer St. Louis.
