Busking Mexico

Evening neighbours.

I'm leaving for Mexico in a few hours. Anyone know if there's anywhere worth busking in that neck of the woods? Where are the fun people and where are the rich tourists?

Anywhere I should go for better reasons than busking?

I have not worked it but have seen performers work puerto escondido.

Check it out also gold coast in Matzalan a friend from france worked it years ago.

Try "playa del Carmen", it's the place I would go to have fun and maybe to perorm...

Yucatan

I would say the Yucatan Peninsula has got to be the most likey place.
Playa, Cozumel and Cancun all have LOTS of (especially American) tourists on short stays - used to paying dollars.
Also lots of upmarket hotels, where you maybe able to get payed gigs - There was one advirtised in the gigs forum - but you'll need a tight, full show to do those - dont do it 1/2 arsed - it just ruins it for other performers
When I was there for Mellenium - I know some people busked in San Cristobal. But to be honest taking money off locals that cant really afford it, well.....dont know how much you need the money!! But i'd stick to the tourist places.
If youre heading further south - Theres a town (who's name I dont recall!!) about 1-2 hrs from Guatamala City - well known for tourists doing home stays and learning Spanish. Nice Cultural chilled out place - may well be a good place - nice pitch there by the fountain - although I was doing street or (any performance) back then. I definately WOULDNT do Guatamala City - think Colombia style and worry.

People can afford the money and it is all the more sweeter if they give you something when they have little. Just dont put your money standards on theirs. If you go to Mexico you can either perform for money to take home and spend in the US which will probably leave you dissappointed or you can perform for money to spend in Mexico which will allow you to leave Mexico a little bit Mexican.

I know what I'd prefer..

and Charlie, you can make nice shows in Mazatlan where they do the cliff diving but be careful to make sure you work in with the locals who are running the other scams there. Its just like any other pitch in the world.....dont mess with the locals business too much and youll get on fine!!
