    san diego 4 pitches

"Gas Lamp" is in down town its modeled after the french quarter in new orleans but don't get excited its still boring uptight sandiego, i did real well working side walk shows there i heard rumors thats its illegal and a $75 fine but the resteraunts never got over the recession and ask the police to lay off your gonna see flower sales men, busking musicians, balloon guys, and pan handlers. the people are un sure of what you are but like it cuz its exciting remember your in san diego p.c. and conservative. another pitch is walking distance its "Sea Port Village" here its better for any size show depending on the walking traffic. you need permit its free at the port authority simple to get. you'll see evry type of performer there, mostly local. "Balboa Park" is a bike ride away on the opposite side of down town catty corner. the pitch runs on a lottery and you have to show up on a special sat. which changes ask one of the buskers at sea port. the pitch is a slow build. and once you get your # there pretty cool about letting you work were you want even though your spupposed to stay on one spot. the last 2 spots i know are good little drives but might be woth it it the first is "Ocean Beach" its an old hippie last hold out town and you can work the main drag. the other is "La Jolla" sort of the beverly hills of san diego super rich and movie stars you could work down town or prospect str. or some of the beach parks.....there is an international hostel in the gas lamp.. and tia juana is just a trolley ride away and hotels are a tenth of the price down there in fact alot of the local buskers live down there. but i want to warn all who go to san diego that if your looking to make big money this ain't the place its a driving town thats why you need to lok for street fair and festivals and crash them. another thing they are extremly uptight, anally retentive, superficial, materialistic, shallow, self centered and clingy if your not. oh yeah one more thing if you smoke cigarettes there are some cafes in the gas lamp you can still smoke inside but remember in calif. they got a thing about smoking and everything else they can whine about.

its a long way from las ramblas.....

i was shocked how easy it was in europe to work, build a crowd, no police harrasment...thats because i learned here in the u.s.

i looked at your site its amazing.

it said your location is barcelona i'm assuming your from europe, if so i should say.

you look professional and talented, and that might be a problem here in the states...especially in southern california where people are very plastic. they don't know what you are. and they are afraid of you because, well... they hav'nt seen you on t.v. or at the mall or in their car or in the mirror because thats where californians spend most of their lives.

      i'm sorry.

try the gas lamp on a saturday nite by the movie theater or on that street where theres room... from 7-11 pm

the rush is 7-8 just before they get drunk....sorry i don't remember the street names.

try yelling!! its always worked for me. when i did my mime or tryed some artistic stuff the people looked at me like i was homeless...but when i acted like a loud mouth jerk they stopped and watched my show i think they could relate to me then...welcome to america.

Hi Jimmy, The shows I did on Venice beach were not too bad...the peaples are very strange, but they pay OK. It seem that they like the show...but the place the city gives you to perform is so small... Today I whent to tijuana....ouahhh I liked this place... pedonal streets...more peaploes around...I've saw a perfect square for performing...full of tourists and mexicans...I just have to see now if it's alowed.
To night there is a lot of peaploes around gaslamp quarter in San Diego...Saturday night I will try there with a small magic show.
        Let you know about.....

yes tijuana is better for street performing but the people are very poor and the peso is worth very little. i have friends who work it though. mexicans love street shows. beware of the mexican police, they can be scary.

saturday nite at the gas lamp is great for a 5 or 10 minute sidewalk shows. i'm a magician also, and thats how i had best results.

Thanks for the info, I have to go back to Europe now any way; I miss my girl friend... Next time I will try the east, here in California the peaploes are very nice, the problem was not with the audience, but with the spots and the stupids laws.... Local performers received me realy well. Thank you every body.

Will anyone be in SD around the middle of Oct. or am I going to be stuck there by myself? I have a 3 day corporate gig there that sounds boring as hell and it's a fuck long way to travel just to do a gig for suits.
