    New Zeeland and Australia

Since its no good time for busking here in Sweden in the winter, i was thinking about going to Australia and New Zeeland. I have a bit information about Australia in the forums. But i cant find anything about New Zeeland.

From what i have understand you will need permits in almost every town. But what i was wondering, if you will need a valid work permit as weel, to get the busker permits?

Im planning to go there from January to perhaps april or may, to start with New Zeeland, and moving on to Australia.

Any tips, pointers, things i should see, etc.

You should try to do the Christchurch festival in NZ. That is in January. They'll fly you over if you make it in.

            Show

I do a circleshow, with diabolo, knives, and as a final of the show, the torches, standing on some volunteers. Its not much, but its a start.

And i was hoping that it would be possible to do the show in New Zeeland and Australia.

I'm sure it is possible. Keep at it. Good luck.

I hate to be the one to say it, but Australia is one of the toughest places to do street shows in the world(excluding 3rd world countries).
If you're looking for an intensive period of learning/failure, with the outcome being a stronger Australian style busking show, go fo it.
If that's not what you are after I don't recomend that you go.

Can't comment on the busking scene in NZ but I think it might be a little better.

I second gavs post on this one. I was in Australia last year and it is a bitch. I takes a good month to get the hang of that slow long build.
but you come back with a much stronger sence of self worth.
                  Gav hello!

i also agree, aussie is a very tough place to work and will eat new performers alive. however, if you have thick skin and the desire to work hard your show will benefit and will also make you a better performer.

NZ is much better, very receptive.

My plan was to go to New Zeeland, and then To Australia. The most time will be spent in New Zeeland. I have a friend living in Melbourne, so i thought im gonna visit him, and if possible at least try some shows

Lucky John: How is it with permits and stuff in NZ? Is it possible to do shows all year around?

permits are required in most places in NZ.not ure how well they enforce it though. the further north you go in winter the better the weather.. Winter in the rest of NZ can be tough

                          Permits - shmermits

                          Hi there
I shall also be in Oz and NZ - from Nov-May(ish)
Ive worked NZ before and its a good place - as people have said - very receptive crowd. In my experience ive never needed a licence - although I did shows at a travelling fair before (so as part of the fair I wouldnt have needed a licenece I s'pose)
In theory you need licences but in prctice I was never even asked for one.
Oz of course is another ketle of fishy beurocrats!! - Lots of hassle, work permits required in some places for licence, difficult crowds, drunks, fire bans...blah blah. Having said that I have heard that Melbourne has a good pitch - so worth a try (let me know how it goes)
Give me a PM and maybe we could hook-up whilst in NZ.
All the Best with your shows

                            Just bumping the thread.

I didnt went to Aus/NZ last year, but im going this year in October. A bit update on my plan though:

Staying about two months in Aus.
Startin in Sydney, going to Brisbane, and then Adelaide and Melbourne. Then off to NZ around New Year or so.

Is it to many places and shall i cut down a bit, or is it enough?
