you know jesus i guess your right..if you think that u can come up with a line that is better than everybody else's then all the more power to you..but what im saying is that you should be able to use sombody elses good lines without causing controversy. if we got our hands slapped everytime somebody said something that some other person came up with then we would have blistered hands for eternity...understand what im saying??

If you ripped off the most famous seen of any movie or book and then published it without putting the person who wrote it in your credits and paying them dues it sure as hell would cause a controversy! Your ass would get sued! Course no one would publish your stuff anyway. They’d laugh at you and call you a chump. Even if you did get it published the public would laugh at you and call you a chump. Then again we live in our own little world that few know about, a place filled with cotton candy clouds and liqurish trees where thugs and slimeballs can steal all our lines, make tons of money, then go beat up thier girlfriends as mentioned previously.

Honestly I wouldn't give a damn if you stole one of my lines. It's not causing me any immediate harm. But I would call you a chump. Here, go put a drum on your back, a harmonica around your neck, and play your heart out on that guitar- you are going to mess up so I've got one for you. Just say "It's the drummers fault. He's been refusing to come to practice lately. We can't learn any new songs like this. Course, I'm the front man so I always look like the bad guy ect... " Don't enjoy it to much.

Well I've sat back and listened to what everyone has had to say and I can be quiet no longer. I have worked Mallory Square for over 13 years and am very saddened by the problems we are having. What once was the best pitch to work is now well let's just say it ain't what it use to be.
Some of what Gazzo says is true but I cannot help to wonder why last night he chose to come across the bridge from the Hilton Hotel where he currently works to work Mallory Square???
And Mr. Cool comes to Key West works a handful of days and starts slamming the place. I know a couple of toothless dirty people who live in Canada but you won't catch me bad mouthing the whole country in a public forum such as this.
Yes we have our problems here in Key West but the biggest problem we have is we the performers are regulated by the vendors whose only concern is trying to make the performers pay a nightly fee to set up and perform. If we were allowed to police ourselves things might be better.
I could go on and on but on and on but I will end by saying this. This is not the place to air out our very dirty laundry in such a public forum. SHUT THE HELL UP AND LET'S END THIS THREAD!

              Thank you,

              Michael A. Patrick

No this forum is not a place to air out dirty laundry.

However, a member asked what the deal was with Key West, and I gave him my opinion and others gave theirs. I'm sorry if a few people don't like my opinion, but it's my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

I did follow up with a post to clarify that not all performers are the same.

I am not slamming Key West, just stating the facts.

Michael, you said it yourself ... "What once was the best pitch to work is now one of the worse."

There you have it from a pro.

I think I will leave the thread as that as well.

                      Christopher,

Jeep wil be arriving into Winnipeg via Delta Airlines flight #666 at 5:38 PM October 13. It's interesting that the inflight movie that I'll make sure he watches is Marathon Man.

                          Lend me a break!

Hey, Guys --- I've been absent for some time touring in Alaska (without a laptop) and am sadened to hear my second favorite venue in the lower 48 being slandered. Although I have never lived in K.W., every time I've visited in the past 15 years the Mallory Square folks have found me a pitch and I have been treated with respect.

Bad-mouthing not withstanding I still hope to make a Florida tour in the spring between Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. In the mean time I'm looking forward to getting home to N.O. from the past four months of my annual hurricane pre-evacuation tour!

                            Jimmy talks Alot,

He asked me why twenty years? Sweet Jesus why? Why
would you spend much of your life amongst a
catastrophy? Well I should clear some things up. In my
first post I painted a picture of Key West. Reading it
, it may seem like its a horrible place to be. But
that was the negative side. So now I will give you
                            some of the positive sides:
I have been coming and going from Key West for 20
years. It is as Dallas has said in his post, it is a
very unique place. I painted a picture of certain
performers there and maybe I was a bit harsh and hard.
It might have been a mistake to do this. Some of the
performers have taken it personally. Which I don't
blame them. I was trying to shake them up a little
bit. And which I have done. Some of the performers
have threatened me on many occasions. One particular
performer has been there just as long as me. Jeep has
taken this the worst. And I just said "Jeep, I wasn't
trying to attack you. " Someone had asked me on a
personal email for me to get involved in this Key West
thread. So I just gave my views as I saw them. So I
will apologize to Jeep in this next thread. But Key
West is a public place but now for the positive
aspects in regards to Jimmy Talks Alot question.
It is a unique place in such that every week there are
thousands of tourists that come down on a nightly
evening to watch the sun-set. Sometimes there are 20
or 40 in season or over 100 vendors. Some have been
there longer as me, some not. I have made friends
witha lot of them and rubbed shoulders with most of
them. Its a very tight community and we are all
busseled together. And space is very tight in season
so tensions can sometimes rise high. But apart from
that, I painted a picture of some seedy performers
etc. But there are some really excellent professional acts as well. that do show up for work in a professional manor (not high or drunk) For instance, Will Soto, The High Flying
Wire Act. He has been there about the late '70's I
believe. And he has been the anchor for most of the
performers. So like him or love him, he is in my
opinion the reason why the Sun Set Celebration is what
it is today. We owe a lot to Will. I appreciate it.
There is also a tumbler by the name of Doctor Juice.
He does a gymnastics type acrobatic show on the
streets. Its a really good entertaining shows. One of
my favorites in the Keys. There is also Rick & Janet
who have a performing dog show. A husband and wife
team. Very Professional. but one of the biggest
attractions is the Cat-Show. I don't understand it and
                            I don't think I ever will. In fact, I don't think
anybody understands it. I can't fault anybody for
that. Its a show thats been going for 20-odd years.
There are also vendors that I have befriended. LIke on
a nice hot night, I have never once in the 20 years I
have been there paid for a lemonade from Lemonade Jan
as we call her. She is always ready to make me a
sugerless Lemonade and has never charged me a cent.
There is also a guy who sells pretzels who came from
New Jersey I think. Again has got a very unique
product. A heated Pretzel that you can garnish with
different sauces and mustards. Dave has Never charged
me in all the time that he's been there, probably 8
years. He has never charged me a penny when I have
asked for a pretzel , hotdog, etc. When it comes to
Christmas time, There are numerous vendors that offer
me a free t-shirt, free bracelet, some arts and
crafts. There are photographers that are willing to
shoot me for free. And I think most of the performers
feel the same way about the vendors. And the main
reason are the crowds. There is no better place in
America that you can put on a show every night for
different crowds. It creates a really fantastic
atmostphere. I'm a big draw, so is the Cat-Man, so is
Will Soto. We are all unique in our way, what we do.
We are the ones the public comes to see. We are part
of that festival. I just think if some of the acts
that i mention in my earlier posts could be a little
bit more professional. But not just with there acts
but with how they conduct themselves. I try to be. I
was just trying to wake some people up and rattle
there cage alittle bit. And bring attention to what I
feel can be a bad impression to some people. So again
I apologise to anybody that I have offended. So
hopefully this email will follow my last one with a
                            better vibe.

Also I left out that I also work alongside my best
friend, the Groovy Guy. I have known Guy for 5 years.
He drinks just as much as the next guy.
But he always goes to work in a professional manner. and you won't see him sleeping on the pitch
Also I would like to add that you can come to Key West
from anywhere in the world. You can work here whether
you are a vendor, street performer or artist. And you
don't really get hassled by Immigration. You don't get
hassled for a green card, visas, work permits, etc. So
in that sense its great place you go through the
audition and then bang, you are making money
instantly. So if you decide to come here, whether on a
witness protection program, running from the law,
trying to hide, have a drinking problem, drug problem,
(just keep it out of the sunset celebration)
or just want to start your life over again
clean your fingernails and take a bath. You will
always be welcome in Key West, the most Unique place
                            in America.

                              Gazzo,

                              thanks, i get it.

i 'm a firm believer in buskers governing themselves and rattling cages [as maybe you've seen from my posts, sorry if i offend].

my concern was regulations like limiting to 20 min. shows, etc. we all know what they are we 've had to endure...any way.

i know not all regulations are bad.

another issue is we should be listening to vertrans not ridiculing them in front of beginners...i'm a little old school.

in fact i've travelled around the world lookin to meet the greats at what i do and i knew you were there thats why i was lookin at this post. next is nick nicholis and tom frank.

its rediculous i hav'nt met you already your the most famous in this country.
or at least see your act live i've seen the footage.

heres some i know eric evans, sonny holliday [ rocky], jim cellini, doug conn, toot [riki palmer], danny hustle, kozmo, checkers [new orleans], patrick [savannah], keno, pepe, paul, gary and the rest of the covent garden crew, i work and travel alot.

heard alot about you and your history.

not lookin to thieve already have a set show.

by the by you and nick are still legends in covent garden even though y'all are in other countries.

thought you should know they said they missed you.
