    San Antonio

My wifes best friend from college is getting married in San Antonio, TX.
She is in the wedding so we are going to be there a week early, leaving me with tons of free time.
Does anyone know if there is a pitch? Maybe near the river walk? Is it worth taking along my kit?

I did a show near the riverwalk once in the late 80's. A very long time ago and I have heard nothing about San Antonio ever since then but I would think that it is probably worth going there to have a look. I have also heard of at least musician acts working in Austin which is nearby so I bet that could be viable as well.

Dallas and Fort Worth each have old market areas downtown that have from time to time had shows going on from what I've heard. I doubt if it's very regular or easy but I also bet it's doable in both those places.

There's a beautiful pitch right beside the Alamo. I did a rockin' show there in the late 90's, but alas once the show was over, authorities told me not to play there anymore. It's too bad cause the Alamo is just an old building and they could use a little more energy in that area. It being the big tourist attraction.
I remember trying to find a pitch around the riverwalk but it was all so narrow. Couldn't find a space for a decent crowd to gather. I didn't spend a lot of time in San Antonio, but that's my two pence worth...Austin is the better place.

I did a show infront of the Alamo. Massive bus loads of kids on field trips. I wasn't hatting the crowd, I was just getting some practice in because I was there for Fiesta, a huge festival the before Cinco De Mayo. A great festival!!! Authorities shut me down saying it was government property and was nice enough to tell me about a huge park near the St. Judes Children's Hospital.

I went to the park and low and behold most of those buses showed up so their kids could eat their lunch in the park. Their is a big gazeebo and pulled off a rockin show!!! Afterwards, I turned around and you could see lots off faces in the windows of the hospital. It was very touching.

Back then, there was apermit required to work around the Riverwalk, but that was back in the mid ninties.

Thanks Rex and everyone. It's chilly here : (. Have yet to work but will let you know how it goes if I get a chance. Locals have told me the river walk in San Antonio would be alright but I don't think you are supposed to play on it. You can play beside it I've heard. Also, sixth street in Austin is supposed to be great. Like I said though, it's unseasonably chilly right now...

I'll be leaving here in a couple days. Working my way to Southern California. I've heard Bisbee AZ is alright does anyone know of spots I could hit along the way?

              Thank you friends.

Tucson, Albequerque and Austin all have colleges, should be good enough to keep you going. Bisbee is insane, when you get there ask about the freakshow that was kicked out of town.

That depends on how long you're there, and how well your particular brand of mental dysfunction jives with theirs.

you need two permits for all of those places. Luckily, you already have both, I presume. Check between your legs.

Nah. Those are usually the problem. I think I've got it under control this time though...
