    iceland

since the overwhelming response to my calls for information on uzbekistan and japan i would like to ask another question regarding Iceland
gonna hit it this summer....why not???
can anyone tell my why not??
    anyone been there before me???
anyone ever met an icelandic busker??
    anyone know of a pitch??
im gonna go and find out myself anyhow but hoping someone can save me some time and energy....

suppose I ought to spread some of the news I just found out after 3 weeks in Japan....

id forgotton about that, ive been trying to find the time to go for years
i chatted with Martin about it last year at Taxis house
      UCO....did you go???
i met a puppeteer last year who went for a couple of weeks and made it on the street but what he truly raved about was the ladies and booze

these seem like good reasons to visit as well

im so nuts at the moment, stuck in Hong Kong airport all fucking day in this bloody lounge but at least they keep plying me with jack daniels, my flight has finally made it onto the screen abeit on page four, only 5 hours to go

No have not been there yet I am going to try to go this summer in august. Idealy I want to do it as a stopover on the way to ed fringe. I still have to make the cash for the year though.
When are you going to go Lee? I have just heard that it can be spendy but if you are in Hong Kong then you won't have the troubles.
Let me know when you are going to be there?
Maybe we can crash it together,
Gav will you be at the fringe this year?

          real soon

i think im gonna be their next weekend or the weekend after. I have always wanted to see that midnight sun thingy so i reckon ill hang for about a month there. June 22 is the longest day so want to be within cooee of that.
streetshows 24hours a day...makes my nose bleed just thinking about.
my puppeteer mate also made it work in the Faerie Islands but I think he just did it on a ferry stopover because he could

I cant believe Im still here

              Well....
I got me an apartment. I had one afternoon which rocked so much I paid the rent on an apartment for 2 months.
Since then not much has happened except one great big long continual day interupted occasionally by sleep. It rains here. It is like the national hobby. Their is a pitch but the window to perform is pretty small and the official stance on street performing is that it is illegal. In saying that, no one seems to bother me.
The streets never have a flow. Ever. When I stand on my case to start my show I am alone in almost every sense of the word, but people just seem to appear.
In three weeks I have managed to work 4 days. They were good days but money dissappears very fast here. For the prices you pay for a round of drinks here you would normally get sex with it!
My attitude is that as long as I have paid my rent I can always eat noodles until it stops raining. The latest bout of aerial aquatics has lasted for almost 6 days. I forgot to mention that most people here dont carry money. Not a cent. Its freaky. Like a nightmare. Everyone uses plastic for everything. Even the bus. Still, people go to machines to get you some after your show. You just have to hang around.
The nightlife however is the best I have ever ever seen in all my travels. It rocks. And the girls are something else.
Long story short, Im still here. I wouldnt like to be a visiting performer paying for my bed by the night. That would kill you. If you want to check out Iceland youll find nice audiences, good hats and not much sleep but I strongly advice checking the weather forecast. If it aint sunny with not a breath of wind and warmer than 6 degrees. Forget it!

You take all the right risks Lee.
They can spin really good yarns too.
And its like there's oil of ulay in the drinking water or something.
Try and get a gig, any gig, they pay well.

Lee keep the adventures coming. I'm stuck in Toronto at the moment, and can't have any of my own.
