Boycott the fucker: After this thread I am here appauled at what I am looking at.
    "Heckle the performer"
    "Posers in the programs'
I can deal with a shitty motel 6 because I have been in worse.
But the lack of consideration for street performing and haveing the organisation say you are not real players: Crazy
I am of the opinion that the street is more real than some big stage thing, because if you can play the road you can play the stage: That is just me,
I am in to a good heckler challenge but if your crowd read that in the program is F*cked, it changes the goal of the show. Now instead of watching shows for fun the idea becomes some asshole to one up you for a half hour.
I won't apply there thanks for the tip you guys, I will pass it along as well.
Hey Frenchy are you rolling through montreal again?
Come and see me I have a new place. new digits as well.
Anyone out there going to burning man? It will be off the hook.

Just to follow up on Millwaukee not getting it:
I heard from Danny Lord that he and Gazzo left Summerfest "with thier tails between their legs."
He siad Gazzo had one huge show 250-300 people, crowd right there with him right up till the end and he pulled a 17 dollar hat.
      Enough said.

        Boycotts are bad!

I do not agree on boycotting festivals...
I think it just needs to be organized differently. These festivals as well as many others are definately workable and I did like my shows that I did, but in the end we can not support ourselves thru a busking/passing the hat method here.

This particular festival is better off paying performers outright for their services and if they would have me back on MY terms I would be happy to return.

-Day Rate x # of Days of the festival
        -Accomodations near the Performance area
        -Per diem
        -Travel

Then they can honestly tell people that the shows are free.

The shows in Bastille Days Milwaukee were big...yes they got drunk too early, but I had fun with the shows, it just got sad when you counted your hats at the end of the day.

          wait a sec...

          Greg,

They treated us like SHIT (and I'm being diplomiatic). Right now I'm performing at the St John Festival in New Brunswick, Canada, and it's a small festival with one pitch and 6 acts and my 12:30 show pulled a hat TRIPLE the size of my best hat in Milwaukee and no matter how bad the organizers treat us here I'm having FAR more fun here. Plus, Bastille Days was about as French as ketchup so needless to say when I make jokes in French here, people actually get them.

          etienne

p.s. Having an organizer do something on YOUR terms.. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!

At the bottom of this page is a facility to send the page (meaning this entire conversation) to any-one you choose.

I think you all should send it to your contact and all the people you met there. Some may learn and the others may move onwards and upwards away from us ungrateful itinerate ingrates.

Either way, in the long term it will improve our community.
            Every-one should watch their drawers!

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon at freaking home, having more fun, having a better crowd (though, of course, smaller) and making better money.

That beats being beaten senseless by drunks, bad attitudes on all fronts, and generally being made to look like the village idiot (TV spots also put us in a slightly bad light, in my opinion, as the news spots encouraged heckling and general abuse to the tune of "look! y ou can talk to her and she won't move! talk all you want, see? so how's the weather clara? doesn't that paint make you die like the tin man? is it your fault {insert some local happening that i really didn't understand}?").

All things said and done, I won't be returning. The one thing I can safely say is that the whole affair made me appreciate home that much more! (and it says quite a bit that 'regular' street performing beat out a festival... )

ok, NOW i'm done with my bitchin'. what on earth am i doing indoors anyway? it's gorgeous out today.

              .c.

                IRISH FEST

I'm performing at Milwaukee's Irish Fest this weekend, along with plenty of musicians, actors, jugglers, puppeteers, balloon sculptors, storytellers and other lads & lasses who are as happy to be here as I am.

Musicians dominate the big stages, but the smaller stages feature performers of all stripes. You don't even have to actually be Irish (shhh... don't tell anyone I said that) as long as your act has an Irish "spin". So put on your best green knickers and follow the rainbow to Milwaukee, because it's all over Sunday night.

P.S. This is my 100th post. Watch your back, Martin.

I was contacted twice by the promoter, who when I sent him a contract, backed out then apparently went with somebody else, (says he). The last time he called, I said that there is no way anybody could afford to travel there from Cleveland for $100 (!!!) and attempted to hire another artist (from Chigago) to do the fest for me. It was going to be cold (which is a problem for any artist) and this artist had never worked under these conditions and had in fact, never busked before!... Anyways, glad it fell through. So glad it fell through... So glad.... Next time I hear from this jerk I'll send him this post...
