We're bad about sharing information about new pitches, I know. But I've got no problem sharing info about where *not* to work.
I just did an experimental trip to Honolulu, HI, and all I can say is stay away. Not only did the cops tell me officially that street performing is illegal in Honolulu, every business owner I set up near to hassled me with a phalanx of burly security guards. The one big pitch is on private property and they're not listening. And to add to the problem, it's not really worth it even if you do get a show off. Short attention span, and small hats. As a circle show, I won't go back.
On the other hand, the place is a legal war zone and some of the performers there deserve our respect and even support. Sonny, a musician, just finished a first amendment suit against the city, and has a court order specifically prohibiting the police from harassing him while he is working. An excellent precedent. The ACLU has been involved there for some time and is doing good work.
Any other "no-gos" people want to share?
