The Auckland Festival has appointed New Zealand actor, director and producer Simon Prast as its festival director.

Mr Prast has a wide range of talents in the performing arts and is the founder of the hugely successful Auckland Theatre Company, which recently performed The Rocky Horror Show.

"A festival for Auckland is long overdue and as the city comes of age, it's something I look forward to shaping," says Mr Prast.

Auckland City Council is supporting the two-week festival, which starts in September and will provide an opportunity to celebrate the creativity of all Pacific peoples.

Acting festival director Victoria Carter, an Auckland City councillor, now returns to her position as a trustee after making healthy progress with festival sponsorship and programming.

With only 140 days until opening night the Festival is rapidly taking shape.

      New Appointments

Mark Burlace has been appointed Associate Director. Mark has a strong festival background including recent stints at Edinburgh. Mark’s strengths are in production and the technical side of getting a Festival happening. Says Simon, “Mark is in charge of making sure the expenditure is spent in the right places.

Shelley Geenty has joined us as Associate Director, and is managing
the Sponsorship Portfolio. Shelley joins us from Auckland Theatre Company where she was hugely successful at increasing the ATC’s sponsorship and its profile in the corporate community.

Melanie Smith joins us as Marketing Manager, and brings with her over 10 years of experience in local and international event and show marketing.

We have a new Finance Administration Manager – Munya Mtetwa. Anja Hendriks is the Programming Coordinator.
