Covent Garden Rules Change

Right,

I was talking to some of my performing friends down in the Garden today and they had a meeting about the change of rules in Covent Garden and the surrounding area.

James Street is now, and has been for a while, Only Statues, nothing else at all can happen in James Street. There will also be a limited space for 5 statue pitches. No more.

Within the Piazza there is still the circle shows and such which is fine, as normal, the guys there pretty much regulate themselves anyway.

With regards to anywhere else in the Piazza there is two set pitches which are for Musicians only. Nothing Else.

This is for the next 2 months at least, then there will be a review.

Not just statues

Hiya...

I attended the meeting with James St performers, Met Police and Westminster City Council reps last Thursday...

the outcome was:

5 pitches on James St. for non-circle acts. This means any act that does not 'actively' draw a crowd....if a crowd is drawn due to the 'fantasticness' of the act then that should be fine as long as it doesn't block traffic too much. By this interpretation I would say that James St is not "Statues only" but open to any kind of act that isn't calling in a crowd.

2 Pitches in the West Piazza for Musicians.

The Westminster City Council rep will be posting up a link to the official laws etc.. in a few days....

So what system is in place that decides which 5...

Hi Sam X,

Sounds like things are changing everywhere. It's Matt here who sometimes appears in london but looks like may not be welcome if 5 is the limit on St James Street. I do the Windy man that my brother originated and Steve does and I do Winged Man also.

So, who decides, or better still how does one decide which 5 can use the space. Is there a rota? What system is there? I'll be pleased to hear.

Hey - I've not personally been back to James St after the meeting.
There was a discusion of a draw/lottery but that was pretty much shot down by the regulars.
1st come first serve i believe.
