    Permits in Montreal

    Hello everyone,
just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for obtaining a permit to busk in Old Montreal. I'm going to be living there in a little over a month, so I thought this was something I should now.

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris Cartier.

Hi there. I haven't been to this forum in a long time, so I'm sorry for the delay in my response, but as they say, better late then never,

In order to get a permit for Old-Montreal call (514) 872-6158
This year the permit costs 105$ CDN. If it's your first time permit with the city of Montreal there is an additional 50$ charge to open your file.

This permit expires on dec 31th of the same year. If you are a street musician this permit allows you to perform everywhere in Montreal and Old-Montreal. You are not allowed percussion instrument and amplifiers. If you are a non-musician busker, you are restricted to perform only in the public squares such as Place Jacques-Cartier in the Old-Montreal sector.

If you want to get the permit for the old Port of Montreal call: (514) 496-6226, the last time I heard, the permit was around 350$ CDN. But you may be too late to apply for this year. Auditions are required for this permit, usually taking place near the end of February/beginning of March, and the number of performers chosen are limited (about 12).

    Good luck
