US tourist visa extension protocol

I will ring immigration but before I do I thought I'd ask here.
My tourist visa runs out on the same day motionfest starts.
I can't afford to go to canada and back which I presume is the least complicated way of buying more time.
I want a weeks extension,
Any prior knowledge???

Martin, the only two non-govtl methods I am aware of are to slip the border (as you have mentioned) or to simply overstay, claim ignorance and change over to a new passport before returning.

Its just that for some weird and possibly tired reason, I crave legitimacy,
I should just bite the bullet and give them a ring.
