    itsy bitsy kids

so i havent been doin to much street performing, so i haven't ran into many problems but i had one that i didn't really know how to handle. This really little kid came up to me juggling and hung around for a bit, which was ok, but ended up staying around and using all my sidewalk chalk up and asking me all sorts of questions, and throwing my balls around. I couldn't just tell em to go away. I didn't really know what to do at all.

You do just have to tell them to go away.

Try, "I'm glad you liked the show! I have to do some stuff now, it's time for you to head back to your parents. Have a great day!"

And "I need that ball to do my next show! Please go get it. Thank you! See you later, OK?"

And "OK, that's enough! What a great picture you drew! Make sure you tell mommy and daddy about it - goodbye!"

You control your pitch, and as long as you smile and use a pleasant tone, you can get rid of the kid whenever you want - it's your choice and you have to take it

I'm a balloon twister and kids are a big chunk of my target market. Whenever I've got a hang-arounder, I put the kid to work either picking up broken balloons, handing off balloons to the crowd, fetching me a glass of lemonade, etc. It either creates an adoring fan or a willing lackey or else they get bored and run along.
