    one more stunt

    hey

i'm looking to add a trick to an already existing street show

i have an extreme magic/freak show with razor blade swallowing and lying on broken glass.

looking to get something that will fit into the freaky/ dangerous genre.

anyone got any ideas that might help?

the trick would be put just before the finale of lying on broken glass and getting a big bugger to stand on me.

    any help is greatly appreciated

    Fakirs

Some ideas - the fakir tradition seems inline with what you currently do. And its great to carry on the traditions because they are just some ol'school street peeps.

    Fakir:
A fakir is an initiate in a mendicant Sufi order. The word derives from the Arab word for poverty. By extension, the word is used to refer to ascetic Indian holy men (sadhus). The term is also used, however, to refer to itinerant Indian conjurers and alleged god-men who travel from village to village and perform "miracles" such as materializing vibhuti (holy ash) or jewelry. They do other conjuring stunts such as walking on hot coals, laying on a bed of nails, eating fire, sticking their hands in boiling 'oil', piercing their faces with long needles, putting large hooks through the flesh of their backs attached to heavy objects which they pull. Some conjurers are even said to levitate or to have performed the famous Indian rope trick. Others are said to have been buried alive for months and lived to tell about it. Some cut off their tongues and restore them. Others can make fire materialize out of nothing. The conjurers sometimes have accomplices and they pretend to do exorcisms or other strange feats. After each performance, they pass the hat, collect what they can, and move on to the next village.

There are a wide assortment of sideshow/bizarre stunts that you could do.

Once you pick one, where do you plan on learning it?

Keep safety in mind first. It's a good plan.

          That said, two words: Swami/Mantra.

              You bought a...Mantra?

              Heh Figo
              What did you buy? Online?
Im sure the Indians mendicants have got themselves online!! But what exactly have you brought from them?
              Im genuinely interested!!
I lived and worked out in India for 2 years - although wasnt doing street, more stage based stuff
I saw some itinerant performers in Indonesia - but unfortunately never in India. Only ever saw the stage acts
Would love to go back and search out the 'true' performers
Let us know what you get on with

hey, i bought a book called swami/mantra it's a hard back collection of magazines that were published in the seventies. as well as having a great collection of western magic it also includes an excellent amount of eastern magic which is now considered geek magic which is what i am interested in

Sorry to keep putting my stick in your mud (now that didn't sound too gay), but I thought I would share this, which was posted on another forum, by Harley Newman, one of the foremost sideshow performers and teachers:

Swami-Mantra has lots of information, most of it being half of what one really needs to know. Find an expert who will teach you, in person.
Just thought you should be aware.
