    pressure

What do you guys do when you have several bad shows in a row and feel like the pressure is going to make you cry, and then get yelled at by one of the other performers for screwing up his show by throwing off the pace?
I went for a hike in the mountians, and it helped. And there is the ever present colorado kind, but that's a given. Dexter Trip told me he gos biking, and I'm gonna try that as soon as I get my bike fixed. Anybody else have good ideas for stress relief?

    Bad shows?

I never have a bad show.

If I did, I'd have to pack it in and get a desk job and cry myself to sleep.

Oh, and drinking paint thinner helps, too.

first - don't take crap about pacing & time from other performers... they should recall that in their own days of neophite performing that they too ran over & screwed up pacing. as you gain experiance - you will find ways to cut and ad lib from stunt to stunt quickly when you or someone else on your stage has run over & you're concerned w/getting the schedule back on track. (are you at the col. ren. faire? if so i'm curious which stage act is giving you a hard time... oh, and tell 'to the hilt' i said 'hi!')

second - when i have bad shows i generally walk it off & and chill for a while... then i sit down and try to figure out what i've been doing which the audiance isn't responding to... i try to psych myself into doing the best show i can at the next stage time. also - if the crowds are especially unruly - i just try to use as little energy and go point to point in my show... usually by the end of the first stunt i have the audiance back and my energy is much higher.

as the old saying goes: 'it's never that the audiance dosen't get you... it's that you don't get the audiance.'
also - realize that sometimes there may only be one person who appreciates your show in your audiance... you should try to find that person and help him enjoy the show to it's fullest. if one person has a great time - it is likely that others will follow - and, if they don't -- fuck it. at least you did your job and entertained that one person, right?
        good luck evan!

The highs and lows of this job are pretty severe. It's not beating me out, but I have to say that I wasn't really expecting it.
My show is getting noticably stronger every week, and I have identified several weekneses to hammer out. But the rough shows do hurt.
I got several phone #'s in my hat last week, and when I didn't get ANY on the weekend I just wanted to kick somthing. Ya know what I mean?

Those #'s taste better with a little salt. When you loose your appetite for paper scraps, try asking them for money. In the mean time, revel in the glee and wholesomeness of being a starving artist.

              Who said anything about starving.
I usually get phone #'s written on the back of cash. They are push pined to my wall as an ego booster, I added three more this last weekend. Now that's what I call wholesome. Do any of you old farts remember what it was like to be young?

I think some of you guys may have missed the point of my post (not firegirl). I just wanted to know what you guys do to make yourself feel better when your having bad shows. I'm not doing too bad, I'm just not very consistant, and I've noticed that nobody out here is 100% on every show. So Rich, I know that your either just teasing me or your full of shit. Mabey you don't call them "bad" shows, but I'm sure that some don't go as well as you would like them too. Does drinking paint thinner help you come up with smart remarks? Cuz I just don't know how you do it.
