    juggling tricks

    Hi guys,

I'm working on 2 tricks I hope to have s o l i d by springtime: the 3 up pirouette and triple - singles. Clubs. I can do 2 up pirouettes and 4 clubs single & double spins. I just can't seem to even begin to do the 3 up and 3 1's. Does anyone have any rehearsal advice or breakdowns which helped them nail these?

There was a thread about this recently on rec.juggling with some good advice. Can you do a triple single type pattern with balls or rings? This is good practice for the trick with clubs as the trick relies so much on a funky rhythm.

As For the pirouette, just make sure that your flash is really, really solid before you spin. There is no sense going spinning all over the place if your clubs aren't going to come down in the right place. Throw them up, and make sure it's a decent flash THEN pirouette. Don't succumb to what most jugglers do when first learning a trick, which is rush, rush, rush. Do it in steps, and make sure each step is properly accomplished before moving on to the next.

I hope this helps a bit, and I recommend you check out the rec.juggling thread which if I remember correctly had more prolific, and more eloquent advice.

I am guessing that by triple singles you mean with 4 clubs right? Well try doing a shower with 3 clubs but doing triple spins. That will give you an idea of how high to throw them and it will also help with the aim. I do have to warn you though once you can do triple singles with 4 then you will want to do it all day long...I mean juggling ya know. Good luck.

        hey Brendan,

Yeah, four clubs. It's irritating that I can't yet do this pattern cause I'm solid with four club fountains and every one tells me this one is easier than the fountain.

So where are you guys now? I couldn't meet up with you in Philly cause of various conflicts. Heard you were heading to New Orleans? Tell Joan I said hi. Have you eaten that chicken yet?

Yeah we are in New Orleans. I know that pattern is tough. You can shower 4? Wow. So how is france treating you? we would never eat chicken. Well keep working on it.

If you have someone to pass with triple singles can be learned by 'keeping a club'. i.e. From an 'every other pattern' throw a triple to yourself instead of passing to your partner. If you catch the triple and pass the next club from your right hand, you have completed exactly two throws in a triple single pattern, hooray. Then try two triples to your self then three etc.

As for a three up pirouette Seamus was dead on. Practice the elements of the trick. Make sure your flash is solid and it also doesn't hurt to practice the pirouette with out juggling.

Lift your head and body upright when you do your piroutte. Also turn your head at the last moment as you "spot" the clubs. Relax and get a nice, high slow spin on your triples. I've seen it done with double spins but I never managed that myself.

Got to put my two cents in. Sorry it's late.

The pirouette: master the flash. 10 times in a row no drops, don't move your feet. Throw quick, add a clap or double clap undernearth. Practice the spin on its own. Get around fast! Spot and snap your head around like Rex said.
                Works with doubles and singles!

The 3-1's: Try just one triple and one single and go back to fountain. Master the shower w/3 club triples like Brendan said and you're there.

Concerning the flash required for dependable 3-up pirouettes,
The order and direction in which you toss the clubs during your flash is also critical, in my opinion.
I personally have a better time with slow, high double-spin columns(Sequence:Right,Left,Centre.Experiment to find out what works 4 U,
                  a cascade-style flash of 3 in a 5-club pattern(which I believe is what others have been describing)or column throws.
                  Good luck!
