    private main street

    Branson, MO has just opened a big section of town that is a private mall development. 450,000 square feet for just the retail shops, a big commercial orgy. Here is a link to their site: Branson Landing . They hire street performers for $8 an hour and the hat but you can't use a hat line.
    I was wondering what your opinions of a privatized main street America with generic brought to you by (insert sponsor here) "street entertainers" are; personally I think it takes something away from what we do. Thank god there are still some cities that understand and encourage open street performance and have not resorted to a generic form of it that Branson landing calls "street entertainment" (why the quotation marks). How much does this happen elsewhere? I want to perform for myself, I don't want a boss, especially if I'm street performing.

    Branson sucks anyway.

    I have not felt controlled in any way by the private pitches I've worked so far.

      How can you pay somebody so little for something that is priceless?
