    Permit for torches?

    Hey all,
I am just looking into maybe juggling torches and I was wondering what is requried to do so and where I would be able to obtain a permit/license if needed. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

you have to audition, and do a saety check in Sydney, OZ....

its different everywhere though, check with the locals wherever you are.

I've often wondered if you could simply go to your local fire brigade and show them what you do, and explain in what situations. Then perhaps they, as fire safety proffesionals could write you some kind of thing which states in their opinion that what you do is not a safety risk. Could help out in some places, you never know.

Interesting idea, Gav. Once upon a time working for the wee Dundas festival, I put together an ensemble fire show. The main pitch there is literally steps in front of the town's large firehall. I went in and asked the marshall and a couple of firefighters to come out and have a look at our safety precautions, maybe give us some tips (seeking, of course, to earn confidence and dispell qualms in advance). I showed them the fuel depot, fire blankets, dipping jars, extinguishers, water buckets, crowd radius, talked about the training and experience of the artists ... stood on my head and spit wooden nickels, basically.

Then we had them watch a demo of some torch work, poi and a spit.

        Their response?

That we were utterly, freakishly daft. They just wandered away shaking their heads and tut-tutting to each other.
