    Busker Festivals

I know there are a number of busking festivals in canada and probably a bunch in the united states. My question is- do you have to audition for them - send in resumes? Can anyone give me a list of some of them? What should I expect to get out of going to one? I guess what Im saying is it just seems really interesting to me - the idea of a festival of loads of performers. Does your hat really get filled- since there are so many acts I would think you get less money- do you get paid by the festivals to perform? Thanks,
    Alex

There aren't as you can see that many in the states but Canada's got plenty.
Yes you have to send stuff to them. Yes they pay you, They to some degree or other usually help you with transport, give you accom and pay you a fee that can range from $100 per day upwards.
Yes the hats can be very good, they work hard at promoting their fests and some of them are long running and very popular so theres often large audiences who know what to do re the hat.

go to the links page and theres a list of fests with links.

Theres also the "Hat Fair" in winchester(UK). Which has been running for years, think its in its 30th year.

Normally the organisers require you to have public liability insurance and if you are going to be booked and put on the programme they will need to see some kind of evidence of your competance as a performer. The organisers dont normally pay performers as you are expected to earn via the hat.
