I went out for my first busking on Wednesday. I juggled for three and a half hours, five till eight thirty and made 45 dollars. Everything went well, no hecklers, although it rained a little bit. It was pretty fun, although I can barely move after juggling non stop for that long. I juggle up to seven balls, 4 rings and four clubs.
Went busking!

I don't want to hear anything from you until you've done seven more of the same shifts, plus three hours overtime. Report back soon, cadet. -

the possibilities are endless
tyler
not long to go now.
In 3 months a lot can change.
Your parents could for example say
"tyler, you have to mow the lawn."
and you'll be able to say.
"fuck you, I'm moving to australia, wheres my pole?"Comment

Seven more!
SEVEN MORE! I may be able to do two more before the summer is over and I'm back in school, maybe I'll finish next year. Thanks for the advice Martin, three more years as of today and I can do that. I've always wanted to go to Australia...

Be clever AND pretty
Tyler, if you're juggling all that time non-stop you need to make some changes, dude!
More talk, less walk. More show, less stuff.
Work on your patter, your verbal skills, your dialogue and interaction with the audience.
You wouldn't see most of the folks who frequent these boards juggling for 3.5 hours straight! Geez, at least fake a drop every now and again to give yerself a rest!
I know you got the goods, skill-wise, and you practice eternally already. Use this street time to hone the softer performance skills so you can sew up the whole package.
Good on ya for getting one in.Comment

Okay, thanks for the feedback. The farmers market where I go isn't really a good place to do a show. It is a narrow street, with people going by and dropping money without barely looking at me. I can do a quick routine or something, but a show is pretty much out of the wuestion because most people didn't hand around for more then a minute. For people that did stay I did a quick 3 and 5 ball and 3 and 4 club routine, and then they left.Do you have any good suggestions or ideas then?

If you do a show, people will stop.
When I was a child I went to juggle on the beach one day. I thought people would see the wonderful things that I did and flock to me. No one noticed me. If you get one or two people to stop to watch a trick, then go into your next trick. More people will stop. Try to run about ten mins. to begin with. When you get more comfortable you can just shout to people that you are starting a show. A few people will stop, you can play with them for a while and more people will stop. Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd.

less talk, more ROCK!
Too much advice, too little practice.
Keep working, set goals, meet them, set them higher.
You'll figure out how to make people stop, just be determined, and you're better off if you find your own way. Utilize the single-minded determination that can come from puberty, and keep thinking "This will eventually get. me. laid."Comment

work the fringe it will be busy and people will stop to check you out more often then just standing near the market
at the fringe you can hyave 30-45 min spots and then rest a bit some people will stop to look then you can talk to them .....go slow get a snazy shirt so people know you are a show unload your props in an upbeat way and you will have an built a crawd before you start mabey get some kid from your onlookers and get him to try and do two balls it is a good bet that this will be cute and build a biger crawd then you do some stuff and talk as you do it if you have no banter or jokes just say what you are doing tell them why you do what you do[street shows] tell them what your dad does and if he likes that you are a street perfomer
just talk and be you if you talk they will lisen and at the end even if you are not the funneist or most polished they might find that you are a nice young man and they could tip you well
and at the fringe you will have 8 days and two half days to get your show worked out
and there you have it
there is a stage persona for you: the nice kid on the street
best of luck

Malkav: (hope I did your name right?) I think the Fringe has already selected their performers, as it is coming up in only a few weeks. Plus, I'm away on vacation for a few of the days. I'm working up to perform at the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival next year. Thanks for the advice Eric!
