    favorite busking spots

Here's my top five in no particular order

1)Old Globe stage at the texas renaissance faire:
large stage with a cool backdrop, seating for about 400, good location near the front to the faire.

2)judging stage at the Daidogei world cup at the Shizouka street performers festival:
Even though we didn't win a prize, I though our act went over well, and we got good laughs even in Japan. I also loved hanging out with the other acts like Glen Singer and waldo woodhead

3)In front of the loding dock at the Dickens on the Strand Festival in Gallvastan Texas:
Our first year at the festival we found a spot on main street with three levels for seating, great crowd flow. We ended up doing twenty one shows in two days.

4)The pitch at the Denver street festival that is a plaza surrounded by stairs:
Good spot with plenty of seating, had fun shows there. I think we traded off with master Lee.

5)The wooden stage with the bleachers at Halifax:
When the wheather was good, that place could rock. The only down side was we traded with a bike stunt act that took forever to clear the stage. It's also where I first saw one of my favorite street performers Justin case.

Exrta bonus number six: working any stage in Minnissota before Puke and Snott.
People would get there early before our act to get seats for P.&S. then wouldn't leave after our show, so we could pass the hat going through th rows like we were at church.

I decide on my favorite spots using a combination of earning potential, and how much fun I had working there.

So anybody else have any favorites they want to share?

When I do my Statue There is a lovely spot on St James Street. Right in the middle.

When doing my close up magic show outside the Royal Opera House In Covent Garden is great.

            Favorite pitch

Hands down -- Jackson Square in New Orleans. This may have something to do with the fact that I live a block and a half from the pitch.

Mallory Dock in Key West -- my first professional pitch ten years ago. It took several years of performing in minor pitches such as farm markets and community festivals before I had grown balls enough to broach a big pitch.

Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz. I'm distressed that the city fathers there have shut it down. Santa Cruz is the only pitch in America that has a full-sized bronze statue of a street performer on its main street. Bless you, Bubble Guy, for your continuing fight to get the pitch back.

Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. Used to be #1 in my book, but the din of near concert-style amplification has dimmed its light as an acoustic pitch. Brattle Square, just down the block, tends to be quieter at night.

I had great fun this spring for a few days at Pier 60 in Clearwater Beach, FL -- thanks Amazing. It probably would have been better had I not been there during the "Back to the Beach" carnival.

years ago i performed at City Island Park in Sarasota. There is a great pitch that doubles as a children's fountain in the day and at sunset the fountain is shut off and it transforms into a good pitch.

Sarasota, being a "circus town", i figured would welcome this form of entertainment. Heck, they even had a statue of a street performer downtown infront of The Bayou Cafe.( a guy playing guitar with his case opened)

I found this a cool statue and had a picture of it in my prop box.

Well, after three weeks in the fountain pitch, i had packed up and was exiting the park when i was approached by a man and woman who stopped me and introduced himself as the Assistant Chief Code Enforcment Officer for Sarasota County. They told me that they really enjoyed the show, but regretted to have to tell me i couldn't perform there anymore. They told me i couldn't street perform in Sarasota. Feeling kinda froggy, i pulled out the picture of the statue and stated that it was odd i couldn't do it when the had a statue of one in the middle of downtown!!! Low and behold, a week later i went by the Bayou Cafe and that staue was replaced with one of a Sumo wrestler.

I guess in Sarasota you can't street perform, but it's o.k. to belly-bop people whenever you see fit!

                watch your senaka

I love sumou ... know a bit about it and feel this is hardly a fair assessment of what goes on inside a dohyo ... rikishi are extremely disciplined wrestlers and highly skilled in their craft.

P.S. I'm gonna tell Asashouryu you called him a "belly- bopper".
