    Glove over face video????

    Hey,
What's up? Hope everyone is doing well, I was in Scotland for the Fringe Fest over the summer and I saw a man take a surgical glove and put it over his face and and blow it up til it exploded with his nose.

This wasnt the first time i had seen it performed, but i was wondering if there are any gloves that are easier to do than others and if they are any video clips of people performing this 'trick' online.

    Thanks a lot y'all!

    Marcus,

I came up with that routine in 1974 and have all performing and publishing rights for the USA, Canada, Mexico, the UK, the EU, EEC and Switzerland.

If you would like to perform this routine, please contact me and we will discuss licensing and royalties.

My lawyers are currently hunting down that guy from Scotland.

You should definitely use the yellow dishwashing gloves like these:

They're harder to get started, but they'll blow up MUCH bigger than those cheap surgical gloves. Plus, they're yellow; so that would make it more 'original.'

        Get outta here, Etienne.

Every-one knows that Robert Nelson inadvertantly invented that stunt as a pubescent teenager (God only knows how long ago that was!) whilst foolin' around with his older (imagine it) cousin Billy-Sue.

A bizarre combination of sexual awakening, improvisation,
forgetfulness, an attempted encore and a severe attack of hayfever, led to the discovery of this impressive stunt.

It sure as hell impressed Billy-Sue, anyway.
        Every-one should watch their drawers!

Désolé, mon ami. Je suis essai juste de protéger l'innocent contre une partie d'information improbable que certains écrivent ici.

I'm just making sure that no-one is posting any misleading information here.

            PS. Marcus,
Robert sold me the Australasian rights in the 70's but if you want try that bit over here, hey, I on-sold it to some kid called "Richie 'something' or other" years ago.

If you can get hold of a very early video of Howie Mandell you will see him doing this stunt. It might have been on the HBO young comedians special around the early '80's.

I've also seen several performers do it on the street and I think it has lost it's impact to tell you the truth. Like anything you've got to "perform" it not just "do" it.

Les Bubb, the English mime, is one of the best performers around and he has also been doing the glove on the head since the 80's.

Rex is right, this one has lost it's impact. So here's an idea for a GREAT (and original!!!) joke:

Take TWO gloves and blow them both up like balloons. You hold onto the bottom so the air doesn't leak out.

Then, with one inflated glove in each hand, you hold them on either side of your head. Now you can say "Hey everyone, look at me! I'm a moose! I'm a moose!"

The laughs won't stop!!! Ha ha ha HA HA!!!!

How about some semi-constructive ideas to use a glove...

Would this work?: Prep the glove by poking a hole in the middle finger and attaching a siren whistle, or a streamer, or tissue strips. Use a surgical clam to close off the finger about mid knuckle so that air won't leak out. Inflate the glove with it stuck on your head. Once inflated, remove the clamp and have the middle finger/streamer flip off the audience as the glove deflates around your face.

Do a William Tell routine with a partner who has to throw/shoot/whip the inflated glove off of the top of your head with something.

Do your impression of a cow by popping into a handstand with the inflated glove on your head.

"You know you need to find a new proctologist when he does this..."

                  Just some thoughts.

If you can't do a handstand, then maybe you could put a "cow-mask" on your butt, drop down on all fours and shout "Hey everybody! Look at me! I'm a cow! I'm a cow! Milk me! MOOOOO! MOOOOO! MOOOooOOOoOOO!!"

Stephen, sarcasm aside, perhaps the thread would benefit from some more constructive ideas, hmmm? The simple premise of using a rubber glove for a street show stunt has potential, and if you really want to influence Marcus in a positive way, why not offer some other specific solutions for that premise? Simply pointing out that someone's ideas have already been done, and that those ideas don't meet your self-imposed ethics code, isn't going to change anything.

Performers.net offers a unique opportunity for us to help each other out through a collective writing effort. Some ideas may suck (moo), but one idea in every dozen or so could lead somewhere.

Instead of blowing up the glove, what about filling it with water, clamping off the open end, and poking a pin hole in the end of each finger. I remember doing this in a chemistry lab once and it met with surprising results! Not that it is an entire act, but it was very funny at the time...

                        Steven,

Going back to the original post, Marcus asks about learning this trick. He has seen other people do it and says to himself "I can do THAT!!! He never asked about creating a routine, character, timing, gimmicks, gags, structuring, jokes, etc. His only concerns are "can I see it again on video" and "what kind of glove do I stick on my head."

The answers to those questions are: 1) Not that I know of. 2) go to cvs, buy a box, and start blowing! Experiment with different brands because everyone has their own personal preference.

Yes, myself and others were having some fun at his expense, but I think it was quite obvious that there was never any malice. Jim's post even made me laugh out loud.

P.Net can be a good place to learn, and it is also good place to just have fun. If P.Net is a school as you suggest, then think of my posts as recess.

Yeah, I know, I just would rather see all you comedy-writing guys put your efforts into generating useful ideas rather than just putting some naive shmo down. And no, I don't think that this forum is a "school". To me, a school implies that there are teachers and there are students. I feel no obligation to teach anyone anything. Rather, I see the forum as having the potential to be a support community and a think tank for nurturing ideas. If you don't want someone to go out and keep stealing stuff, then show them how to create their own. I think that the best way to do this is by example rather than by lecture. So, if we pool our efforts, generate twenty ideas around a rubber glove stunt, everybody wins. Glove guy gets a bit and doesn't have to lift an overdone routine, and nothing gets stolen. On top of it all, you might even win a friendship in the process. Win - win.

                            any one remember Howie Mandel?

QUESTION : was Howie Mandell the first to do this or does it pre date him?
                            just curious
also i have only seen this routine done with an individual comic twist once. i am amazed at the number of times i have seen this damn trick and even though it causes me invaraiably to groan and mumble, i have never seen it fail.
