INT'L ARTIST WANTED FOR WORKSHOPS
In response to the overwhelming request for local talent in Red Deer’s CentreFest (www.centrefest.ca), the Red Deer Summer CentreFest Society (RDSCS) established the Artist in Training Program (AIT).
The Artist in Training Program is a community-based initiative for local artists to learn street performing and face painting/body art skills and provides them the opportunity to develop those skills in a series of mentoring workshops and ‘live performance’ experiences like the Red Deer Outdoor Public Market, the Westerner Parade, CentreFest and the Alexander Way (48th St.) Celebration and many more!
The RDSCS is looking to hire (contracted 'fee for service') internationally experienced street performing artists, rovers, face painters and body artists to participate in a series of workshops, seminars and mentoring opportunities to develop local street performing talent in central Alberta. The workshops and seminars will focus on practical street performing skill development and will include opportunities for 'guerilla street performing' where the seminar teachings are immediately put into practice to create a spontaneous street performance.
The future of the Artist in Training Program is already very bright. It has proven to be a welcome addition to the numerous international circle show performances that grace the streets of downtown Red Deer every summer during CentreFest.
Interested artists are asked to contact Rene Michalak - Local Talent Committee Chair - to gather more information and discuss how they can get involved in this most excellent and unique program by e-mailing:
purephoenix@shaw.ca
With the continued support of the central Alberta community and dedication of the Red Deer Summer CentreFest Board of Directors and Committee volunteers, the Artist In Training Program will help diversify CentreFest, develop local performing arts talent and support Red Deer’s reputation as a Cultural Capital of Canada (2003).
