Wombledon Fringe Arts Festival (Wimbledon London)

"Wombledon" (the Wimbledon Arts Trust) achieves its aims with the support of youth volunteers on the scheme offered with the support of BCTV Millennium Volunteers and the local community across London.

Wombledon is a unique not-for-profit organisation and the newest Fringe Arts Festival in London and aimed at increasing visitors to London and extending the Wimbledon Tennis summer event and to show that Wimbledon is much more than just tennis, strawberries and cream.

Wombledon aims to be the biggest fringe event in London and is timed to feed into Edinburgh Fringe, so there are some exciting opportunities for supporters and acts to become well know in the community and internationally.

Wombledon has some great stories of achievement and community participation and the Trust has just won an award for training & community involvement.

Wombledon started in 2004 as a "test" with 25 venues and 100 events over 7 days to see it the project was feasible.

For 2005 we have 35 venues and around 250 events over 10 days (so far), with a much healthy looking financial outcome.

Wombledon starts on the last weekend of the Wimbledon Tennis Finals and now links into that event on the 1st July for 10 days. Wombledon is centered in the London Borough of Merton with most events in Wimbledon and the surrounding area, so transport links are good across London.

If anyone would like to find out how you can be part of the Wombledon 2005 event as an artist, Melleium volunteer or to just come to the Festival and join in the fun, see http://www.wombledon.org.uk
