John Wright is an international theatre director/ teacher he co founded Trestle and Told by an idiot. He also wrote 'Why is that so funny?' a practical guide to physical comedy...

    October 26th - 30th at Toynbee studios 10am - 5pm

    Week of Clowning:

Forget the ‘One hundred stupid things to do with a parcel’ approach to comedy. This is a course in clowning for actors. It is designed to give you a daring quality of play and audacity within the context of a structured dramatic situation.

    November 14th - 15th at the Jerwood Space 10am -5pm

    Devising, developing a text:

Text is often neglected in devising, and evolving an effective text can be problematic without an effective vocabulary of games and strategies to help you.
This is a two day workshop desigened to examiine the development of effective text, and to investigate the ways and means of creating one.
In addition to vocal spontaneity we will cover: dialogue, monologue, choric text and scene analyses where we play with text as a scenic element.

    November 23rd- 27th 10am- 5pm venue TBC

    Week of Mask:

Many people maintain that playing mask and acting are very different activities. This course will explore and examine these differencies. And try to answer the question: what can mask-work teach us about acting?
We will be working with naive masks, half masks and archetypal masks. We will examine the ways and means of activating masks, and playing mask in various scenarios, of apying the disciplines of mask work when working unmasked.

    Weekend workshops cost £100
    Week long workshops cost £200
