Free Workshop in Baltimore Mon 2/20/06

Performing Arts Critique Sessions at the Creative Alliance Baltimore
    FREE

Open to performing artists from any discipline; dancers, jugglers, actors, mimes, clowns, musici ans, performance artists, magicians, variety performers. In short, anyone who uses the stage as a means of expression.
Valuable to those who incorporate physicality in their work or would like to do so.

What is it? You bring a sample of your performance, such as a sketch, trick, short piece, etc and show it to the group. You will have a time limit so that everyone gets to go. When you finish, your peers take turns giving some non-judgemental feedback and sugggestions. Suggestions are also jotted down on index cards for you to take home. To participate, you must abide by the guidelines for giving feedback to any other participant. Everyone helps each other, so it’s important to come on time and stay to offer your feedback to others. If the group is very small, we can have a second round to do the same piece again to try out some of the new ideas you’ve been gifted with. Lively discussions may start, and we can finish those over a delicious beverage when we leave.
Leave significant others at home. This is for performers only and it is not a performance, but a mini workshop to help you grow.

The processs is fun and very productive, as attendees of Motionfest know. This “critique” is modeled directly on the motionfest example. If you have never attended Motionfest, come in and try it. Many performers have made great leaps in their solo work with the help of sessions like these.

There is no “Guru” and it’s not a class. However, there is a moderator to keep things on track and make everyone shut up when it’s time for the next piece. The moderator is Steven Lampredi, actor, clown, director, and musician.
