wow L.A. is extremely regulated for every thing so i guess it makes sense street performing would be regulated there too.
MANN'S CHINESE THEATER @ HOLLYWOOD AND HIGHLAND busy crowded full of costumed movie characters. you have to work the side walk with your back to car traffic. i made small hats[but lots of people]
SANTA MONICA PROMINADE @ permit $39 good for the year need to provide 2"x2" picture. the pitch is 3 blocks of a walking mall you can ony work 2 hrs per block and cannot return to a block for 6 hrs but theres a way of cheating by working the far end of a block for 2 hrs and then working 2 more on the other end because your not some odd hundred somthing something and oh yeh 10 feet from shop doors and vendors and forty feet from other buskers and theres a "venue manager" who comes around and hassle you and cops who wear black and cops who wear green and they all hassle you and no smoking even tho its out side on a public street i could go on forever but they've already done that for me in there some odd 40 page legal pamphlet with complicated maps and diagrams.
needless to say yep its full of buskers who if they're talented and experienced are frustrated and not makin the money they want to contrary of course to what the "venue manager" is tryin to brain wash everybody into believin. and if there not talented seem to think it some thing there doin wrong...and its hard to say.
i liked all the buskers i met there espescially tom frank[who i went there to meet i'm a big fan] and his brilliant student Black Magic.
hats were ok sometimes on the prominade.
SANTA MONICA PIER the prominade permit covers it but it has so much regulation it took half'n hr to explain it till my friends understood i never did basicalliy same rules as prominade only more and a lottery on top held 3 or 4 times a day depending? didn't even try looked good tho had a carnival on it.
VENICE BEACH it has whats called a "freedom of speach permit" according to one of the magicians there, i don't know how much it is no body seemed to care any way. same regulations only finally seemed like i was dealin with humans every body sort of just ignored alot of the stuff and one of the regulations is that after 12 noon you can take a spot if some one is assigned by lottery or permit or somethin they can thro you off but i guess since its winter the off season plenty of open spaces my hats were big and i was payin $70 a nite at a motel on lincoln@ pico cuz the $16 hostel through me out cuz i didn't have a plane ticket?

also it is very very very dangerous there crack heads and gangsters and the most repulsive to me dirty hippies every where. i liked the gutter punks i used to be one my self ....are you startin to get the picture of the place? there was a couple of insidents were i felt in danger every body seems like there on pcp or somethin.
good hats on venice and you don't have to study law to work there.
