All of Wichita may soon be a stage. Tuesday the city council will begin exploring the idea of allowing street performers in Wichita. Currently street performing is only allowed with special permission for special events. But, the Downtown Development Corporation wants performers to use the city as a stage.
Downtown development types agree there should be some rules, specifically when and where performers can perform. The downtown development group has researched street performers in 12 cities. They hope to eventually see everything from musicians to artists and even mimes in downtown.
City council will discuss street performers then they could ask staff to research the issue and come back with a revised ordinance.
